Volusia Remembers is proud to announce that we have officially been accepted as a Community Partner with EJI, the Equal Justice Initiative.

EJI is best known for its two facilities for learning and remembrance located in Montgomery, Alabama.: The Legacy Museum and the National Memorial for Peace and Justice.

As a Community Partner, Volusia Remembers will follow steps that have been used by other communities to remember and honors their local victims of violence and injustice. The work will include collection soil samples from the murder sites, creating and installing monuments at the sites, and installing a replica of the Volusia Monument which is currently on display at the Memorial in Montgomery. This large monument lists the names and murder dates of Volusia’s victims.

We invite interested citizens to join us. Learn more. Participate in commemorative events. Lend your gifts and skills. Donate.

By confronting together our painful history we can bring healing to the present and reconciliation to the future.
